The image speaks about itself in three ways; the animal, the medium, and the metaphor. The large osprey was drawn in pencil, allowing for the remarkable feathered flyer to receive fine detail. The background effect of the folded paper was created by watercolour, and alludes to the origami metaphor and to the nature of art and mixed media. I chose pen for the origami birds to delineate them, except for the final one, who is more like the large osprey with pencil shading. The work is thus also about how we perceive animals and how they affect art and culture.
