'Fragments' is a mixed media painting using watercolour, yupo, tissue paper and nature printing. During Covid, I worked full time as an Art Director for a PBS animated TV series. My creative time was limited and I needed to find a simple method to keep my creative practise alive. I began to collect samples of vegetation from my woodland garden and on short walks in the nearby park. Back in the studio I used a gelly plate to take their impressions. I enjoyed working on this more intimate scale, cropping fragments from larger watercolour paintings and combining them with the prints. using a smaller aperture, I was drawn to look more closely at the biomass under our feet, to notice the evidence of insects, eggs, seeds - the very basis of life in the temperate rainforest.

The expressive nature of water media fascinates me and forms the basis of all my work – it’s a way of thinking and problem solving for me. I particularly enjoy a flowing, slightly unpredictable approach in a variety of fluid media.
"My paintings are often an immediate and personal response to natural forms and rhythms found in the Pacific Northwest landscape."
