BLANCHE - Portrait of a SNOWY owl is one of a series of large Owl portraits.
Snowy Owls have been categorized as ‘globally vulnerable’ due to warming temperatures, the reduction of food sources, road fatalities and industrial objects such as machinery, telegraph wires, propeller blades and flare stacks.
In the painting, I use a thin paper barrier of dress making pattern tissue against the coarser texture of the canvas. I enjoy the way this surface takes paint and the underlying geometry it creates.

The expressive nature of water media fascinates me and forms the basis of all my work – it’s a way of thinking and problem solving for me. I particularly enjoy a flowing, slightly unpredictable approach in a variety of fluid media.
"My paintings are often an immediate and personal response to natural forms and rhythms found in the Pacific Northwest landscape."
