About the Artwork

During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, our lives became dependent on the daily messages issued by our health professionals. We all had to understand the vital need to respect our neighbours and community members by purposefully distancing ourselves from them and staying at home in an effort to protect everyone’s vulnerability to the virus. We also had to trust that the directions we received were being accepted and followed by everyone without exception.

The words inside the houses in this piece are presented in the style of ransom notes to emphasize that the virus was clearly in control of our fate, holding everyone hostage in their homes until such time that the social distancing ransom has been paid and it’s declared safe to resume normal lives and reunite with others in our communities.

Most memorable quote: "This isn't going anywhere if you're going everywhere".
