About the Artwork

SOLD! This painting was juried into the 2024 Small Exhibition at Federation Gallery, Vancouver, BC. which runs from September 24 - October 6, 2024. It then went on to be part of the 2024 Success! Fall Exhibition following the election of the artist to signature status (AFCA) in the Federation of Canadian Artists where it sold on the second day.

New Horizons was inspired by a trip to Swaledale in Yorkshire England near Marske by Richmond, my ancestral home. That scene, so unbelievably peaceful, was watched over by a lone sheep standing against the evening sun on the horizon.

Virginia Bergmann, AFCA

Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia

While visiting various stately homes around Toronto, or attending ballet in a turreted old Victorian, I would be suddenly captured by a dark, moody landscape and be lulled into a quiet respite by the serene, atmospheric, ethereal glow. My goal is for my paintings to evoke that same feeling.

"Painting in the tonalist style, I create atmospheric, moody landscapes which convey a feeling for the passage of time and evoke in the observer a sense of quietude and pensiveness. I hope to impart some lulling solace amidst the discordant clamour of this world."
