The orchestral 'Flight of the Bumblebee' evokes the seemingly chaotic flying patterns of bumblebees. This painting is a portrayal of the playful bees dreamed up by composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. My approach to the composition of this piece was to allow the frenetic style of the music's chromatic scales to inform the position of the bees on the canvas… while honouring bees as remarkable navigators!
Childhood memories of this music, and the bumblebee images it conjured up in my mind, inspired the ethereal quality of the atmosphere of this painting.

These expressions which might otherwise go undefined, demonstrate connections between these different realms of experience. The opportunity for introspection and sharing, brings me excitement and joy in the creation of each piece."
