Way Up Here depicts one of the high ridges I saw when hiking up Glacier Crest Trail in the Asulkan Valley, Glacier National Park.
This view places us high in the Alpine witnessing the impressive rock peaks that are shaped by the glaciers they hold. The rapid changing weather keeps us aware of our vulnerability while massiveness of the landscape reduces the sense of our significance. Despite this contrast there is still a reverent embrace to experience while drinking in the grandeur.

Valerie Speer, AFCA
Rosebud, Alberta
Valerie is renowned for her dream-like paintings characterized by flowing, simplistic lines, a skillful play of light, and subtle gradations of color. These stylized elements come together to create the signature tranquil essence of Valerie's work. As a landscape painter, she takes pleasure in immersing herself in the great outdoors,
"As a landscape artist, I love hiking and immersing myself in nature before painting. My personal experiences of stillness, hope, and awe inspire the stories I want to convey in my art - moments I want to share and cherish long after they happen."
