This work was inspired by my time in Bamfield, BC. I had the opportunity to paint at Brady Beach on a beautiful calm morning.
As the morning sun rose it finally topped the cedars which held the beach in shadow. As the sun kissed this immense sea stack with warm light, it lit up with pinks and oranges demanding my attention. Incredibly these stacks still stand though battered by wild storms. The crown of twisted trees bears witness to the gale force winds normally endured which looks oddly out of place on such a serene day.

Valerie Speer, AFCA
Rosebud, Alberta
Valerie is renowned for her dream-like paintings characterized by flowing, simplistic lines, a skillful play of light, and subtle gradations of color. These stylized elements come together to create the signature tranquil essence of Valerie's work. As a landscape painter, she takes pleasure in immersing herself in the great outdoors,
"As a landscape artist, I love hiking and immersing myself in nature before painting. My personal experiences of stillness, hope, and awe inspire the stories I want to convey in my art - moments I want to share and cherish long after they happen."
