About the Artwork

A street scene depicting the Hansel and Gretel Cafe and Bistro in Amsterdam in the Netherlands showing the leisure activities of the Dutch people on bikes and sitting at the outdoor cafe tables. Painting cityscapes is not my usual subject however I do like the challenge of trying to figure out the best way to render each texture of the buildings. I used many different techniques to create the illusion of the scene. Although I enjoyed painting this piece I am usually more in pursuit of a looser approach that expresses how I feel.
