My Charlotte series (based on a model of the same name), represents my aim to integrate abstracted figures into their active backgrounds. By doing so, this becomes metaphor: we are our contexts, we are of our worlds, with responsibilities to each other and the worlds we inhabit. The grounds are collages composed of papers that include original sketches from life drawing, recycled art work as well as found papers. Charcoal, graphite and acrylic paint are the other media used to create the figure.

By blending figures into textured backgrounds I am expressing our interconnectedness; we are our contexts. This speaks to responsibilities we have to one another and to the world around us. Starting with abstract collages, I merge them with images from sketches or photos, transforming chaos into tranquil, contemplative art.
"I love the dance between intention and spontaneity. My process takes me from an often chaotic world to a quiet, contemplative space."
