Menopause brings physical and mental challenges that can erode a woman’s sense of worth in a culture that values a youthful look. There is grief in that, but there is also defiance. This work holds that tension of fragmentation of identity, the layering of past and present, beauty and aging, strength and vulnerability. She is not fading, but rather she’s transforming into her more confident and honest self.
