About the Artwork

"Fascinating, intelligent, and incredibly agile, orangutans are one of the most unique species on our planet.
Orangutans are known as gardeners of the forest - By breaking branches and foliage as they travel, orangutans create pathways that are utilised by smaller species. In addition, they help spread seeds around. Especially the larger seeds that don’t get spread by smaller animals.
Without that seed distribution, the rainforests would be drastically different, and that would have impacts on all the people and animals that use those rainforests.

This Orangutan was encountered at San Diego Zoo a few years ago and I loved paint him."

My journey as a Wildlife Artist is one of constant learning. Choosing subjects, learning about their struggles as a species, developing ideas for how best to paint them are ongoing for every painting - bringing that image out in paint is an absolute joy and so rewarding.

"“One of the strengths of wildlife art is its ability to tell stories. In my paintings I try to bring out the individuality of each animal as it goes about its everyday life - I use my brush to tell their stories.""
