One of my favourite ways of generating a painting is to pair images that seem to speak to and with each other. It’s kind of like the card game we call “concentration” where you turn over pairs of cards through hunch, memory or desperation, till you arrive at two that match. In painting, there is then the much more challenging process of figuring out HOW to combine the imagery in a satisfying composition. “Silver Roses” is a play on the names of the two girls, but also somehow resonates with the nostalgia these faces evoke.

"In painting as in life, whatever distance you travel just opens up further vistas for exploration. Subtleties, bold statements, complexities of relationships, colour, colour, colour. I wish I could paint forever!"
