In early July, wild Mariposa Lilies can be found in my community of Lake Country in the Okanagan. Their delicate mauve flowers grow on single tall stems which appear to dance among the wild grasses. Blooming for only a few days and listed as an endangered wildflower it’s a rare treat to witness them.
I created this painting by applying acrylic paint thick using a palette knife over a coloured under-painting, allowing the underlying colour to peak through. A technique I created especially for this Series.
This scene includes the majestic Ponderosa Pine trees and bunches of wild grasses so typical of the Okanagan terrain. Okanagan Lake can be seen in the background together with the beautiful mountains of West Kelowna, before recently being devastated by wild fires.
This painting is included in my Okanagan Harmony Series, as a testimony of the glorious land that once was, but might be no more, and the graceful harmony of praise it once sang.
