The original and literal inspiration for this theme was a flock of small shore birds moving as a fluid unit against a vast marine setting. The concept under consideration is one of individuals belonging and moving in a cohesive collective within a larger more universal and impersonal setting. The elements of searching, longing, belonging, mysterious knowing, negotiating, friendly or threatening, leadership, distance, uncertainty and home all seem relevant along with obvious similarities or differences of the individuals constituting the collective.
