"I Took the Fish out of the GD Water" is an examination of the modern Newfoundlanders' relationship with the food fishery. The title itself is a play on the famous quote by John Crosbie during the post-cod moratorium era in Newfoundland. During that time he was blamed by local fisherman for the collapse of the cod fishery. The painting is an exploration of the intersection between tradition, sustainability, and personal identity. It is also intended to capture the inherent beauty and complexity of the fishery, while reflecting on the changing dynamics and challenges faced by contemporary Newfoundlanders. "I Took the Fish out of the GD Water" invites viewers to reflect on their own connections to the food fishery and reflect on the delicate balance between preserving cultural heritage and ensuring the future sustainability of this resource.
