In Remember When, a raven perches before a fragile 1939 newspaper, becoming a silent observer of time. The raven is a symbol of memory and prophecy; it embodies a bridge between past and present. Together, the raven and the newspaper create a meditation on contrast, between simplicity and complexity, memory and progress, past and present. A sense of disharmony emerges from this juxtaposition, highlighting the disconnection between the values of a bygone era and the complexities of modern life. The painting’s muted tones and symbolism ask whether, in our pursuit of advancement, we’ve lost something vital. The raven's presence suggests that the past is never truly gone, it lingers, watching, reminding us of the cost of forgetting. This piece invites viewers to reflect on what has changed, what remains, and what we may have left behind.
