During my isolation, I decided to start a new series called Nature Squared - each featuring an inspiration from my memory or the view out my window. For this piece, I was dreaming of the California poppies that would bloom this time of year in my native State. It reminded me of all the people I love there and how we are all in this together regardless of borders or current locations. The colours and textures instantly brought me back to a place I loved and the hope that spring brings.

Karen Marki
Vancouver, British Columbia
Karen Marki's paintings are layers of several works built onto the canvas like an excavation site, encouraging the viewer to see what lies beneath. Her process includes using unusual tools to create markings and texture inspired by both the urban and natural world.
