About the Artwork

This abstract is intuitive from beginning to end. I began with intuitive mark making all over the canvas using large gestural movements in black. I chose colours as I went according to how it spoke to me, in a call and response manner, until I felt happy with the painting. Since this intuitive process is generally how I work, people often ask me how I know when the painting is finished. for me, beyond checking design and value elements, it is a feeling that the painting is done when it speaks back to me, and I feel a spark of joy. Then I know it is complete.
