About the Artwork
Every portrait is an encounter between the sitter and the artist, and by extension, the viewer of the picture. The encounter is mutual: while the artist or viewer observes the sitter, the sitter also responds in his or her own way. When this exchange is successful, the picture offers a glimpse into the mind of the sitter.
