About the Artwork

Beauty in Winter is an oil on cradle board painting of a beautiful peony. The choice of a monochrome painting for my piece is symbolic in nature; the monochrome colors symbolize the long, ongoing winter with its very stark landscape, and the peony itself symbolizes the beauty of winter despite the lack of color. The beauty of the flower and dew drops, represent the hope we have of spring, when the snow melts and flowers begin to blossom in beautiful northern British Columbia, the great white North.

Jody Herman

Cecil Lake, British Columbia

I am a self taught artist originally from Northern Alberta, I now live in Northern BC not far from where I grew up. I specialize mainly in authentic western/country themed graphite art, pulling ideas from events that I have been to, or am a part of and from memories.

"The inspiration for my artwork comes from the authentic western life that my family and I live. I pull ideas from memories and local events that happen in our area and everyday life. I enjoy sharing those memories with people and it inspires me to keep creating."
