It is difficult to imagine life for many women around the world. I have been exploring this concept in paintings for several years.
I met this woman in her small ‘safe’ abode in a slum high above Rio de Janeiro. These locked barred doors were her window to the outside world. At night she would retreat to the small room behind her. During the visit when distant shots were heard, our small group descended for safety. She, of course, was left behind….
