Looking for a great spot to paint plein air is sometimes exhausting. Other times it just jumps out at you – right behind the supermarket. I had arrived for a 3 day stay to explore Fernie – shopped for groceries upon afternoon arrival and determined to be prepared to set up for a large canvas in this spot for the morning light on the mountain and reflections on the pond. Bingo. 2 chilly hours well spent.
My travels were intended to capture the fall color in the Rockies and Foothills. The still reflections of this tiny lake were a bonus. Double the golden whammy – and lots of chats with the locals.
Painted (about 80%) plein air and then finished in the studio. Acrylic on textured and tinted canvas. I travel with pre-primed and colored panels & canvas ready for my plein air adventure.
