Outside of Lytton, BC, a small stand of Ponderosa pine rises on a hillside, remarkably spared during the 2021 fire that devastated the town. The trunks show the darkened scorch of passing flames, yet the trees remain upright and resolute — a quiet testament to the species’ resilience and the protection of its thick, insulating bark.

My long career in forestry continues to shape my art practice. I’m drawn to trees not only for their form, but for the histories they hold — of disturbance, endurance, and renewal.
