About the Artwork
The bark of Douglas fir is complicated. The characteristic thick corky bark of mature trees withstands frequent fires, while connected to cork are overlapping cellulose layers that expand as the tree grows. This companion piece to "Still Standing" shows part of the cork on the left side and the connecting cellulose layers on the right.
