About the Artwork

When reality bursts into imagined realms, something special gets channeled into art. Strayer's two paintings "When Circuits Grow Flowers #1 and #2" were inspired by scientists having created electronic circuits that grow inside living plants. Strayer's unique perspective emphasizes the artistic and aesthetic appeal of this idea-- not the control of nature but the alignment of electronic and living systems that rely upon circuitry (plants, even humans). The intricate and compatible interplay of organic and geometric lines and forms in these fanciful paintings conveys fortuitous and colourful surprises that occur when everything is connected but not everything is under control.
