I took this photo while we were walking in downtown Vancouver, handing out Christmas packages to the homeless. While the buildings in the forefront are very old, it's a contrast to the buildings in the background which are newer, with some under construction. The homeless in this area of Vancouver stay away from the worst crime area, which is a few blocks away. They generally keep to themselves but are very appreciative of the gift bags which include mitts, toques, socks, soap, shampoo, toothbrush, gift cards, and candy. We began doing this a few years ago instead of buying Christmas gifts for each other, and since then, many of our friends and family have added their contributions to the Christmas packages for those living on the streets of downtown Vancouver.
