There is something delightfully universal about painting candy. It is an invitation to tap into core childhood memories and simple pleasures. This piece centers on a single green apple saltwater taffy, its glossy surface and twisted wrapper rendered with careful attention. A hint of red printing peeks through the translucent wax, just enough to suggest its maker without revealing it entirely.
The composition is intentionally minimal, allowing the taffy to take centre stage. A soft gradient background provides gentle contrast, while the candy’s cast shadow grounds it in space. I am drawn to how food can be both playful and evocative—and candy, with its bold colours and polished textures, feels especially nostalgic and indulgent. The vivid green was chosen for its striking quality and my personal fondness for the hue, even if green apple is not my favourite flavour.
This painting draws focus to something easily overlooked—the artistry behind a humble sweet. In its simplicity, it is more than just a treat. It becomes a small, shiny object layered with memory, craft, and quiet joy.

"Creating art feels like a natural legacy. My brush gathers stories from flowers I’ve nurtured, journeys I’ve taken, and objects I hold dear. I hope my paintings stir a recognition that beauty resides not in grandeur, but in the intimate details of daily life."
