The first meeting with a new grandchild is very emotional. The painting is a record of that day. As Autumn cuddled into her daddy's chest I was overcome with happiness for my son with his tiny daughter. I took me several years before I was prepared to recreate the moment. I decided on the natural substrate of linen and cotton, the warm colour compliments the skin tones but doesn't detract from the subjects.
