2 Solitudes
This Painting was painted from photos I took on Kite Beach in Cabarete, Dominion Republic.
Dominicans are brought up riding on horseback, usually no saddle, often shoeless.
They rent out their ponies to tourists who can realize an idyllic dream of riding on horseback through ocean surf.
The painting reveals a tourist watching a Dominican driving his horses home.
The difference between his and her lifestyle, their circumstances, their life experience, their expectations could not be more stark.
I have found Dominicans to be kind, joyful, and loving to their children. But we can never deep down know them. We have never walked in their shoes.
