This is the magic of Botanical Beach where a cedar tree defies nature by growing on rocks which occasionally seem to be partially submerged by the tides. The image is back-lit by the sunshine, using phthalo. blue (green) and cadmium yellow for the strong greens of the cedar tree, and some green-gold for its light. Dioxazine purple is used for the deep shade in the rocks, breaking into the strong light introduced by cadmium red (light) mixed with titanium white and other pigments playing in the sand, logs and seaweed of the beach in the foreground.
