Aphrodisiac exhibits the beauty of the stoic black rhino and the East African Savannah. Tragically, these animals are hunted relentlessly, not only as trophies, but also for their horns which are said to hold magical and medicinal properties. The most infamous misconception is that the black rhino’s horn can be used as an aphrodisiac. I painted this piece to raise awareness about the human-inflicted plight of the black rhino. They’re now endangered due to callous human behavior and habitat loss. As artists, we must shine light upon what matters to us most. I cherish the natural world and everything within.

"The world is full of fantastical possibilities and beautiful yet disturbing realities. I want to capture this and throw a little of my own into the fray."
