This is an image of a rusted nail in vibrant blue peeling paint and worn wood. The nails in each of my paintings embodies a personality shaped from the time it was hammered in place.
As individuals we are like the nails: both alone and together we shape the integrity of our cultural existence. I see imperfection as the visual representation of vulnerability. From birth the life experiences we are exposed to shape our inner perceptions and outer actions forging our own depth of character. I am fascinated by the relationship that people have with themselves and the inextricable relationship between individuals and culture. For me, imperfection is the key to human connection and evolution.
My “Nailed It” series reminds us to embrace the collective strength and power at the heart of what it means to be human.
