Mr. Shang Chen is a Calgary-based visual artist and art educator. Passionate about painting since childhood, he studied visual communication design at the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, and later founded a design firm in Beijing, creating visual identities and commercial design for various well-known companies. Since immigrating to Canada in 2017, he has advanced his artistic practice while mentoring students into Canada’s top art institutions.

Currently, his work focuses on contemporary realism and portraiture. His recent portraits on kraft paper explore the subtle textures of human emotion and cultural identity. Balancing rigorous classical draftsmanship with a contemporary sensibility, He’s expressive technique profoundly captures the psychological depth of his subjects.
