About the Artwork

Arrowleaf balsamroot, also known as Cariboo sunflower or Balsamorhiza sagittata, is a flowering plant native to the region around Chase, BC. It is a member of the sunflower family and is characterized by its large, bright yellow flowers and arrow-shaped leaves. The plant is known for its edible parts, including the roots, leaves, and seeds, and has a long history of use by Indigenous peoples in the region for food and medicine.
