Adi Balasubramanian is a Vancouver-based oil painter working primarily from direct observation, both outdoors and in the studio. Adi’s practice is rooted in direct observation and the experience of being present in a place. He is drawn to recognizable landscapes and everyday scenes, interpreting them through a vibrant and distinctive use of colour while maintaining a strong sense of realism and place. Alongside his plein-air practice, he develops larger, more considered paintings at his studio at Portside Studios in East Vancouver, where he continues to explore the same sense of place through a more deliberate studio process.
