Lera Bersenova
Calgary, Alberta
She was born in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine. Her personal experiences of immigration and loss have shaped both her worldview and her art. With a background in Fine Arts and her work as a Production Artist, painting became her way of processing life: grief, resilience, memory, and the small joys that keep her grounded. She paints her inner world, exploring themes of trauma and healing, as well as intimate subjects like her dogs, her hedgehog, and her husband. What drives her work is the hope that someone might see a piece and feel understood, comforted, or less alone. She aims for her art to echo the emotional landscapes we all move through.
She encourages artists to create from the heart without focusing on success. In a time when social media trends and external pressures often define artistic value, she believes art is a form of self-exploration that cannot be measured by conventional standards of success.
