On taking a newly hand made basket outside in the sun to photograph, I was completely taken with lace like shadow pattern. I immediately filled it with lemons and limes and sketched and photographed the resulting set up. My work is most usually inspired by the shadow and light effect in a scene, so this still life was a real pleasure to create. Painted in oils, I chose a composition that emphasized the shadow and while rendering the basket and fruit fully.
