The mudflats of the intertidal zone are soft, sandy silt full of water puddles, where small streams form and trickle for a day or for a week, inviting us to leave footprints in the mud. It is a calm and soothing landscape, a refuge for birds, an important comma between fresh and salt water. I enjoy the lines disappearing between sky ,water and the everchanging shoreline of the estuary. Oil paint lent itself to the blended transitions between land and ocean. There are days when no drama is to be appreciated, that what such a day. In spite of the twice daily ebb and flow of the tides, this estuary remains soft, soothing, welcoming.
