Oil on Deep Canvas. Fall in the Yukon is an early and short season with riot of warm colors, with grasses and sedges like gold carpets in the wetlands and valley bottoms, and on luscious and smooth slopes. It is a time of preparation for winter for all wildlife. It is a time for last hikes, last field trips, last bursts of colors before winter, snow and cold keep us closer to home. This valley is a favorite destination for Yukoners, for Caribou as well, and for visitors keen to see this short lived spectacle. I enjoyed the smoothing of oil glazes, of creating distance and the vista that calls us to walk further into the landscape. My home for so many years, I cannot seem to be able to leave it behind.
