About the Artwork

This painting was inspired by a photograph I took in a park I love: the Île-aux-Tourtes Nature Park in Vaudreuil-Dorion (Quebec). Located on the edge of a lake, it is laid out in such a way that it feels like a forest. It is therefore possible to enjoy access to the water for kayaking or paddleboarding, while breathing the fresh air of the many mature trees that grace the landscape.
This painting is called "Unique", because I noticed while painting it how unique each leaf was. Some had holes, withered and were starting to fade... but it was all these imperfections that made each leaf perfect in my eyes. So it is the combination of the 59 unique leaves in the foreground, all different from each other, that is at the heart of the beauty of these trees.

In each of my tree portraits, I integrate small pieces of real bark. They are a tangible reminder of the precious and fragile co-presence between man and nature.

"...BECAUSE EVERY TREE HAS ITS OWN STORY."
