“The Star-Catcher” explores the wonder and diversity of our human family using colour and pattern. The rich collaged garment includes a pattern of cultural influences - using both familiar motifs, such as florals, and contrasting these with vibrant geometric shapes. This results in a compelling contrast that adds depth and interest to the piece, and leads to a sense of tribalism. The gold vessel held by the figure adds an intriguing focal point. It’s significance is left open to interpretation, provoking curiosity and inviting viewers to ascribe their own meaning to it.
The scattered stars offer a counter-balance to the intensity to the patterns on the garment, introducing an element of whimsy and intrigue that captures the viewers imagination.
