Bald Eagles are iconic symbols of the Pacific Northwest. Many people would be surprised to learn that these magnificent birds, often seen soaring gracefully above with their impressive 7-foot wingspan, mate for life and share equally in raising their offspring. These couples build their nests high in tall trees, and over the years, the nests can become enormous as they are reinforced and expanded each breeding season. Whether soaring high above, perched in a tall tree, or clutching a fish from the ocean, Bald Eagles are always a spectacular sight.
These birds possess highly developed vision, featuring two centers of focus called foveae, which allow them to see both forward and sideways simultaneously. While humans can perceive three basic colors, Bald Eagles can see an impressive five colors, including ultraviolet light; however, they do not have good night vision.
I was fortunate enough to have one land in front of me, granting me a rare view of the beautiful pattern of its fine feathers in the soft light of the sun filtering through the clouds on a stormy day.

""My paintings, which are done in series, are an attempt to show beautiful locations whose natural integrity has either been altered by human intervention or is about to be. What is the cost of our imposition on the virginal status of these lands and the inhabitants therein?""
