Vancouver Island has a topography like no other place in Canada. It is home to the Arbutus (Madrone) tree, which is very distinct with its twisting shape, grows near the ocean, and has multicoloured peeling bark. This particular tree grows alone on a narrow spit of land at Piper's Lagoon, and is my favourite tree to view. This painting started as a plein air piece with a few other artists painting nearby on the beach. The view is looking across the Strait of Georgia to the mainland of British Columbia, with the Sunshine Coast and entrance to Howe Sound on

Every day I experience something in nature that invokes a response: a need to create and express an instance in time. I love the challenge of creating texture, reflection, and light. I'm grateful to live where this is evident in abundance each day.
