The past few years I've been practicing glazing and love to paint rocks that are underwater. I watched this lakeshore for days, waiting for the sun to hit just right for my photo reference. This setting is Blachford Lake, in NWT. The Lodge here hosted the then Duke and Duchess of Cambridge during the Royal Visit to Canada in 2011. Given my science background, I try to be accurate (in a semi-abstract way) with the plant species. I was drawn to this scene for the variety of trees; willows, jack pine, subalpine fir, paper birch, and black spruce.

Every day I experience something in nature that invokes a response: a need to create and express an instance in time. I love the challenge of creating texture, reflection, and light. I'm grateful to live where this is evident in abundance each day.
