Julie Karey
Quesnel, British Columbia
Julie Karey is a Quesnel, BC based artist. She creates dynamic abstract paintings and impressionistic studies in acrylics and oils.
In 2015, struck with a chronic illness, Karey had to reinvent her life: "I had to accept that I now have a disability. My life was active and vibrant, but now I am largely confined to my home and even my bed. But through painting, I've discovered that this is just one ending, and also a new beginning."
For these deeply personal reasons, her painting explores themes of paradox, perception, and transformation as major forces in the human experience. Karey's colourful and dynamic works remind people of the resilience and brilliance in life & the human spirit, come what may.

In truth, life only has meaning that we find or give it. And thankfully, painting liberates me from my own limitations and the limitations of the world. It allows me to connect with the deeper human truths around suffering, beauty, and what it means to truly live.
