Cathy Kluthe
PARKSVILLE, British Columbia
My work is a cerebration of the individual stories behind each face - a moment frozen in time, reinterpreted for the present. By blending realism with graphic simplicity, I aim to create portraits the feel familiar, encouraging viewers to imagine the untold stories of these figure from the past and perhaps remind them of theirs.
When I study my vintage family photographs it summons up sentimental feelings and memories of family celebrations at the farm. This collection of paintings consists of my grandparents’ portraits, second cousins one or twice removed, aunties’ great aunties, and favourite animals.

My images could provoke thought beyond the colours and shapes presented before you, each frozen-in-time painting captures but a brief second from someone’s life.
