Richard Finley
West Vancouver, British Columbia
I was born in Meaford, Ontario into a family of artists. My uncle knew Tom Thompson, who lived near Meaford. In my youth, I paddled my canoe through Algonquin Park and Georgian Bay, where I came to appreciate their beauty through painted by the Group of Seven.
In 1989, I moved to Vancouver, where I practiced Surgery for over 30 years. In my late fifties, I took up acrylic and oil painting and received a Certificate in Painting from Emily Carr University.
Ten years ago, I started painting with a plein air group ( Men in Hats) and joined the North Shore Artist Guild years ago. In 2022, I completed the Federation Foundations Program.

I am inspired by the works of the Group of Seven, which has allowed me to appreciate and paint dramatic scenes around the world.
