Margaret Horvat
Burlington, Ontario
Margaret grew up in beautiful Prince Edward Island, Canada, moving to Ontario as a young adult. The beauty and unique character of the Island has an influence in her painting and perspective on life.
She is attracted to subjects that have a history to them; everyday objects from the past that have a story behind them, even if that story is not fully told, they have existed and touched the lives of people over many decades, and in some cases over a century. She is especially interested in capturing subjects that have a reflective shine or glow, which affords the challenge of representing that three-dimensional interaction with light on a two-dimensional surface.

I find the details and history of vintage and antique objects especially attractive to portray in my paintings, but whether still-life, figurative or floral, the interplay of light and shadow is always a recurring presence in my work.
