Anna Kutishcheva AFCA
Oakville, Ontario
Anna is a Canadian landscape painter well known for her ability to convey significant depth within the field of landscape painting... Her compositions are extremely well rendered, but it is her celebration of tone and hue that invoke melodrama. Her pieces, not unlike the landscapes of the early Canadian masters, leave us in awe of the sublime forces that exist within nature; she pushes past the picturesque into territory that refuses to remain purely decorative. Her technical objectivity belies the heavy symbolism in her works; this tension is the force that keeps her audience rapt with attention, as if each sequential piece promises to reveal a touch more of the mystery of the Canadian landscape. (Cole Swanson, Curator, Living Arts Center, Mississauga)
Anna studied at Sheridan College, the Advanced Illustration program. She works as an illustrator, writer and fine artist; her illustrations appeared in MacLean’s, Ocala Style, Niagara Life and children's periodicals and books.
Anna’s paintings have been featured in an assortment of publications: Arabella, American Art Collector, Canadian Brushstroke, Fine Art Connoisseur, Hamilton Spectator, Bruce Trail Calendar, Inside Halton and National Post.

Being in nature and painting nature is an exquisite joy for me, and I want to share these feelings with my audience. Textures of rocks and bark, the sound of wind and animals in the woods, nod of the flower and the smell of snow. Birds move along brunches, clouds weave along the sky, and the sun illuminates everything with rainbow colours. I feel that the ancient way – aligning your life with nature: shapes of trees and rocks, shadows and lights - gives an excellent opportunity to express your soul. One day and the same place, it’s cheerful, another - miserable and angry, but it's always glorious. I am chasing light that renders mundane objects into whimsical shapes and creates the scenery with mood and liveliness. I draw inspiration for my landscape paintings mostly from my travels across Ontario, from the unspoiled magic of North American woods, lakes and rivers. Sometimes it's a trip to Kawartha, and sometimes - just a walk to the local park in the Great Toronto area.
